A group inquiring into one of the six SPELTAC practices that amplify language acquisition: Talk and Engagement
In the SPELTAC practitioner’s classroom, the students do most of the speaking. SPELTAC practitioners understand the importance of language practice for their learners. They weave plenty of opportunities for speaking practice into their lessons. They understand that social interaction is important to developing thinking skills and understanding as well as (academic) language development. They view competent speech not only as basic communication, but as something that needs fluency, clarity and sensitivity. They know that oral language is the foundation of literacy.
