A group inquiring into one of the six SPELTAC practices: knowing your students
SPELTAC practitioners have high expectations of their students regardless of their language level and spend time and effort getting to know them as learners. They know about their students’ language level, profile and needs and their linguistic and cultural background, so that they can build on their ‘funds of knowledge’ when designing learning experiences. They also consider where their learners are headed and what it means to be literate in the 21st century and this is evident in their teaching (e.g.through technology integration and new literacies).
